Church Staff

Elder - Pastor: 


     Shane is a native of Tampa, Fl. He has been our pastor of 1st Baptist since 2013. Shane and his lovely wife, Jessie have been in the ministry for over 20 years doing various ministries. Shane’s desire is for believers to know what they believe, why they believe what they believe and how they can show others what they believe. They have four children their oldest lives in New Orleans with her husband, second oldest lives in Bartow, Florida, and the two younger ones live here in Gurley, Al. They are excited about God’s call in their life to minister here in Gurley and pray that God’s will is done completely as they follow His calling.



     Jordan is a native of Hartselle, Al. Jordan has been a member of FBC of Gurley since 2006 and has served as an elder since 2009. He and his wife, Jessica, live in New Market with their daughter, Evelyn. Jordan works as an engineer for Lockheed Martin in Huntsville, Al. Jordan's purpose as an elder is to serve as a servant leader to the body of Christ at FBC of Gurley.

Shawn Howard -

     Shawn is from north Alabama and has called the Gurley area home since 2003.  He lives with his wife, Denise, and 2 children, Luke and Marissa. Shawn works as an engineer for a U.S. Army logistics organization. He has been a member of First Baptist of Gurley since 2006 and has served as an elder since 2009. Shawn desires to serve the Lord by serving others in our community. 

Worship Leader:

Norman Duffell

     Norman is a native of the Montgomery, AL area. Norman has been the worship leader at FBC of Gurley since 2004. Norman is from Ramer, AL (Montgomery area). He and his wife, Amanda, live on Keel Mountain with their daughter, Lydia. Norman works as an engineer for the US Army at Redstone Arsenal. Norman's purpose as a worship leader is to exalt the Lord through song and to encourage the congregation to develop lifestyles of worship.

Nursery Minister:

Sheryl Vanderhoeven

     Sheryl and husband Peit have two children, Son Caleb, is a student at UAB in Birmingham.  Daughter Sophie, an eighth grader, is home schooled.  She plays volleyball and piano.
     Sheryl also teaches science classes for home school co-ops.  She loves caring for infants and 'little ones'.  She also works part time in day care at the Matrix.
